"Las Muchísimas" is an inclusive dance-performance piece featuring seventeen women over the age of 60, proudly embodying diversity, rich life experiences, and a commitment free from prejudices or dependencies. With a captivating sonic landscape crafted by Joana Gomila, it gracefully dances through beauty, happiness, and hope.

THE ORIGINS

“Las Muchísimas” emerges as the evolutionary outcome of “Las Muchas”, a  project led by choreographer Mariantònia Oliver, originated in 2012 as an experimental venture, featuring a group of remarkable women aged between 70 and 87, who she took to the stage.

Encouraged by the positive reception from audiences, Oliver decided to extend this unique experience globally, with performances in cities such as Bristol, Ljubljana, Madrid, A Coruña, Seoul, Barcelona, Valladolid, and Bilbao.

Following the principles of accelerated growth, “Las Muchas” transformed into an independent entity—a dynamic network of powerful, richly experienced women, each with a compelling story and a strong desire for self-expression.

In “Las Muchísimas,” Mariantònia Oliver invites 17 of these extraordinary women to continue their journey of experimentation and dance, aiming to delve deeper and create a large-scale spectacle.

Here and now

As part of the Grec Festival in Barcelona, this initiative unfolds the transformation of “Las Muchísimas” into a public space performance. It involves the exciting prospect of incorporating local participants at each venue where the performance is presented.

"

“Las Muchísimas” are both a collective and a myriad of diverse entities, each with its unique syntax—a chorus of voices that speaks, engages in battlefields of expression.

Dimension

Through the body ...

“Las Muchísimas” encompass the richness of our individualities and differences, yet at the same time, embody the underlying essence of unity. We are a network, a dialogue, a celebration of generosity, empowerment, liberation, struggle, sensuality, and transition.

The only requirement to participate in Las Muchísimas is to be a woman over 60 years of age.

The Process

Our collective decision is to center our attention on HAPPINESS—an inherent and unifying emotion. We aim to amplify the joy of embracing our true selves, finding satisfaction in gazing at our reflections, recognizing the journeys we’ve undertaken, and lifting our heads high. This happiness emanates from narrating our individual stories with pride and a profound sense of ownership. Our intention is to articulate the essence of who we are, what we’ve constructed, and the paths we’ve carved; to give voice to the boundaries surpassed and the triumphs achieved, transcending the constraints of assigned roles, comfort, and dependence.

For the meetings it is important to count on

  • A large space to work with a number of 15 to 20 women.
  • A stereo system.
  • Chairs, as many as the number of participants in the workshop.

“Las Muchísimas” introduces a 4-day workshop, spanning 3 hours each day, encompassing both body preparation and rehearsal for the upcoming performance.

This workshop serves as a transformative “journey” where the primary focus is on developing the choreography for the show. It offers a unique opportunity for women to come together and engage actively and passionately with their bodies and health.

Beyond the artistic objective of crafting the choreography, this journey provides a space to explore various facets of women’s lives, enhancing self-perception, and recognizing and celebrating their accomplishments. Most importantly, it’s an invitation to dance and elevate the femininity of those who are still eager to embrace the joy of dancing and living to the fullest.
